Better route in winter to State College, PA: Pittsburgh or Philadelphia?

I live in Louisiana but I will be traveling back and forth to State College, PA this fall and winter. Since I have the option of flying into Pittsburgh or Philadelphia which would you choose? I heard that the roads can get a little icy and since I'm from the south I don't have a lot of experience with winter road conditions and I'm weary about the mountains. Thanks for any help.
