What is the name of this old movie?

I am a movie buff, kinda, and if you don't know who the actors were, or know their character names, it's almost impossible to tell you what you were watching. The story-line you mentioned has been used for many years, on both sides of the ocean, as entertainment, movies or TV. Sorry I can't help you. If only you had watched the end credits you would at least know who the main actor was.
